A special religious assembly was held at Port Glasgow High School today for about 250 students. Three teams: Youth Music, Drama, and Youth Sports combined to worship God in song, action, and testimony. Our team had the privilege of teaching four additional classes on communication and perseverance. We did relay races, played volleyball and basketball with the kids. Two team members gave up their lunch break to play basketball with one kid who just wanted to learn more about the game. We were a bit restricted as to what we could and could not share in Port Glasgow High School. Actions had to speak louder than words. The kids were ecstatic and had a great time with all of us.

Call the Ball and Stay in the Game!
November 10, 2009Stay encouraged! It would be an overstatement to say we were prepared. No one was truly prepared. But we trust God. Today we went to Port Glasgow High School where we taught two physical education classes five times to students from 11 to 16 years old. One class was on communication and the other on perseverance. “The kids had a lot of fun. You could tell by their faces,” remarked one of our members. It was a spectacular time, full of laughter, wheelbarrow races, and an impromptu basketball game. It hasn’t been a easy walk, but tomorrow’s a brand new day.
Here In Sunny Scotland
November 8, 2009Was it really only 16 hours ago that the fire alarms rattled us from bed? So much has happened since that “wake up call,” months could have passed. Today, Armistice Day, our team attended Remembrance Day service with the Greenock East End Parrish congregation. Service was held in a local community center complete with basketball hoops and wonderful fellowship. Later, after dinner, our team walked home through the streets of Greenock and talked about the day.
“…I was moved and encouraged by the older folks at the church…see how God has kept them in the walk for so long,” said Cedric. Gaby exclaimed, “I was overwhelmed during service by how amazing God is. Here I am a girl from Queens and God sent me to Scotland to be part of His plan.” Louie was “really touched by how friendly the people were and how excited they were to have us here.” Doc remarked, “I’m in awe that God chose me to be a part of what he is doing all the way over in Greenock, Scotland.”
Something to Eat
November 7, 2009So, you’re sitting in the airport waiting for your connecting flight when suddenly you realize “What in the world are we going to say?” So turning to your team leader you venture the question, and doubt creeps in. Mark 6:37 says “…you give them something to eat.” But we don’t have anything, where do we get this? Everything is in pounds. We already have it, we have Christ. Moving down the page a little more in Mark 6:48 it says “Then he saw them straining and rowing…” And you suddenly re-remember, He already knows what’s going to happen. That doesn’t mean we won’t strain at the oars, burn the midnight oil, get tired after a transatlantic flight, or even have questions. But, He knows what he set before us. And more, He’ll come out to us to keep us going. Actually, He never left.
Mark 6:48 “Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the forth watch of the night He came out to them, walking on the sea…”
